I carried out some research into genres of music which I felt the song for my music video linked too.

Green Screening/Colour Keying
I also trialled green screening/colour keying. To do this on adobe after effects these are the notes I made on how to do it;
- NOT project, new composition
-Drag media to area at top
-Click the cirlcle with the arrow on toolbar at top, rotate and make sure you're on composition NOT layer
- Effects - keying - Key light 1.2 - select the colour to get rid of (click on pipette at side on screen colour)
- Final result - screen matte
- On left- push black and white up/down
- Screen shrink/grow- minus number to improve edges

Effects Research
I think the effects used in this video could be useful in my video even though the style of song is completely different. There are two effects that this video uses which I really like, the first being the slow motion used with the ballet dancer, and the second the dull look to the video, and the pastel colours. I definatley think the pastel colours would work well in my music video alongside the song I have chosen.
I also think this video works well with the effects around the edge of the video. I really like the way the video looks like a ripped photo around the edge. i think this takes the harshness from the edge of the video and would work well to have an effect like this around the edge of my video.
After watching the above video I decided an appropriate effect to use in my video would be one like Lana Del Ray has used. The effect is that particularly at the beginning of the video, it looks like it has been filmed very professionally but also has been filmed in very bad quality.
Test Footage
I used the above video for my test footage which I used to create the keyframing green screen video below.
Artist Discussion
I decided on the song in the youtube video above. I looked at the singers facebook page and website. I decided to contact her through facebook to ask whether I would be able to use her song.
Before I had contacted Olivia, I came across the band 'City Lightz'. I messaged them too however because the band aren't together anymore I couldn't use their track.
Key Framing
The above video shows my key framing animation. It is a short animation in which all the objects move due to key framing. The cat also rotates and the lollypop lady grows.
Cutting to time
This video shows how we have cut the videos to fit the music. This means the music fits the video and follows the music tracks beats.

ABC Video
Before creating my own music video, we had to work in small groups to film and edit a video. The music we were given was the ABC song and we had to film rushes which represented or were the relevant letter. We then had to edit this together, ensuring the lyrics fitted with the letter of the alphabet we were showing.

I really like Ed Sheeran’s music video ‘lego house’. I think
the camera work of mainly close up and long shots makes the video very
simplistic but visually interesting. One of the reasons why I like and enjoy
this music video so much is because of the emotions which the close up shots
show and then the way these emotions are put into the way Ed Sheeran then
sings. The mise-en-scene in this video also works very well creating a
visual/lyrical link as Andrew Goodwin identified. There are a lot of shots in
the video which include lego bricks. The shots in this video are also set
mainly in peaceful, quiet and tranquil settings making it an interesting but
also strangely relaxing video to watch.
I really like Jessie J’s video ‘Domino’ for a number of
reasons. The first reason I like it is because of the upbeat, lively and fun
music which accompanies it. I also think the way the video involves lots of
bright colours makes it much more visually appealing. Although the video can be
a little random at points, again I think it is this that makes me even more
interested in watching it. Throughout the video there is a number of camera
shots used, and personally I think because so many have been used, such as
close ups, long shots, extreme close ups it has again made the video more
appealing because with the next beat of the music, you do not know what too
expect. In my opinion, Jessie J’s Domino video is very unpredictable, making it
an extremely exciting and thrilling music video to watch.
Ed Sheeran- Drunk
I analysed Ed Sheeran's music video 'Drunk' and put this into the above powerpoint.

Lady Gaga- Telephone
Lady Gaga’s ‘Telephone’ music video is 9 minutes and 31 seconds long. This is unusually long for a music video, with most videos lasting between 3 and 5 minutes.
The music video starts with ‘retro’ style writing as if a title for a film. Throughout the video there is also split screens which insinuate that this part of the video was taken through the eyes of a security camera which gives viewers the idea that it could result in a pseudo-reflexive performance. The security camera view also gives the impression that women need to be kept tabs on as it is mainly women that are seen through the view of the camera.
Throughout the video it is very dark and black colours which are portrayed, this sets a negative and dull feel to the video, however later on in the video when Gaga is dressed in her outlandish and unique costumes, and very bright colours are quickly introduced. Although the music video is 9 minutes and 31 seconds long, the music doesn’t actually start until 2 minutes and 55 seconds.
This video mainly represents women, and uses very revealing clothing to create a somewhat sleazy effect on the women. The first part of the video is also based in a prison which insists that women are bad and need to be locked up. Throughout the video there are lots of costume changes, and each one is a just as unique, outlandish and different costume. The whole video uses the singer and dancers to portray women as sexual object
The music doesn’t start until 2 minutes and 55 seconds of the video as previously mentioned. The singing is built very well into the music video, with it starting when Lady Gaga picks up the phone and responds to the phone call with her lyrics. When she starts her singing, she uses very overdramatic lip movements which not only are good for the audience to understand what she is saying, but this sums up the video very well- overdramatic and dramatised. There are a number of props used in the video such as keys and a laptop, but more importantly the various headdresses which Gaga changes into, again, mostly very unique and different but also most include a telephone. With the telephone headdresses, Gaga has followed one of Andre Goodwin’s convention and linked the lyrics of the song with visuals. In the kitchen scene of the video, Gaga is surrounded by men. This has two representations of women, one very traditional representation being that a woman should be doing the cooking in the kitchen whilst the men supervise which is shown in this video. The other representation is the one woman is overpowered by all the men in the kitchen, making the women seem somewhat vulnerable. Before Gaga serves what she has made in the kitchen, a retro looking recipe flashes up to the right of the screen. This leads into the next scene when Gaga serves the food. When the first man who eats her creation starts choking, Gaga gets blamed by the others portraying women as sly and evil. Following this is a news flash which again backs up that women are seen as evil creatures. The whole music video finishes with credits, which once again makes you think this whole video has been created too look like a film or video. The women throughout this video experience voyeurism which represents them as sleazy sex objects and sly, cunning and evil creatures. Gaga has created and developed an iconography which is specific to her video through the weird, wonderful and different costumes she uses in her music videos. The Gaga costumes are easily recognisable and so if people cannot recognise the artist in the lyrics or signing, they can see the costumes and instantly recognise it is a Lady Gaga video.
